The authorities have transferred a total of 20 senior officers of the Bangladesh Police, including four Inspector General-ranked officials, in an effort to bring greater dynamism to the police administration.

Additionally, 16 officials equivalent to the rank of Superintendent of Police have been transferred to new areas to ensure the success of the effort.

The Public Security Division, a division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, issued the notification on Tuesday in light of the order of President Mohammed Shahabuddin.

The transferred police officials have been assigned to various units across the country, including metropolitan areas, range DIG offices, in-service training centres, the PBI, DMP, industrial police and RRF units.

Earlier on 9 December 2024, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjad Ali while addressing a press conference said an estimated 90,000 members have been recruited in the police force on political considerations during the last 15 years.

Recruitment was done in different ways including, the political identities of candidates, their fathers and even their grandfathers, he said.

Some 80,000-90,000 out of the existing 0.2 million police members have been recruited on political grounds in the past 15 years, added the DMP commissioner.

As part of the efforts to ensure neutrality within the police department, the authorities have been actively transferring officials to make the department more dynamic than before, a top police official said on condition of anonymity.
