2,500 litres of adulterated milk mixed with chemicals were seized in a series of separate raids from PRAN Dairy Chilling Centres at Chatmohar upazila in Pabna district on Monday.

A 17-member team led by ABS Lutful Kabir, Assistant Director of National Security Intelligence (NSI) Pabna along with Additional Food Safety Inspector (Pabna) Mofazzal Hossain, Chatmohar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Musa Naser Chowdhury and Upazila Food Inspector Aslam Hossain jointly conducted those separate operations at the PRAN Dairy Chilling Centre at Langolmora village, Chaikola and Chaikola Chourasta area.

Police detained eight individuals during the operations. A mobile court sentenced three area managers of PRAN to six months imprisonment each. In addition, milk, oil and various chemicals were seized and the 2,500 litres of adulterated milk were publicly destroyed.

The detained individuals are Saidul Islam, 35, from Langolmora village, Chaikola union; Khalilur Rahman, 65; Liton Hossain, 19; Nijam, 50; Rubel Hossain, 20 and Majeda Khatun, 35.

Later, Khalilur Rahman was released on a bond. Cases have been filed against the remaining individuals at Chatmohar Police Station.

Furthermore, Chatmohar Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Musa Naser Chowdhury sentenced the three PRAN Chilling Centre area managers for illegally conducting business with infant food.

The convicts are Md. Jahir Raihan, 35, from Chira Chithulia village under Shahjadpur upazila; Md Nazmul Hussain, 28, from Karamja Purbapara village under Sathia upazila and Md. Shamsul Islam, 36, from Jantihar village under Faridpur upazila.

They were sentenced to six months imprisonment each under Section 52 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009 by a mobile court.
