A group of 28 Bangladeshi nationals has returned home from Iran. They arrived in Dhaka on Tuesday morning (July 1).

According to an official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the returnees traveled from Tehran to Dubai and then flew to Dhaka. On Monday, they departed from Karachi, Pakistan, en route to Dubai before boarding their final flight to Bangladesh.

Sources revealed that these individuals had initially left Tehran by road on June 25 in the first phase of repatriation following the Iran-Israel conflict. Most of the returnees are women, children, and patients who had gone to Iran for medical treatment. They traveled overland from Tehran and entered Pakistan through the Taftan border in Balochistan.

Following the outbreak of the conflict, many Bangladeshis in Iran had expressed a desire to return home. However, as the situation has since stabilized, fewer people are now showing interest in returning.

Officials said that around 250 Bangladeshis had registered with the Bangladeshi embassy in Tehran for repatriation. The government had planned to bring them back in phases. But with the situation improving and international flights operating normally again, many are now expected to return on their own.

Currently, there are approximately 2,000 Bangladeshis residing in Iran, including 400 in Tehran. Among the officially registered 672 Bangladeshis in Iran, 66 are students.
