Three furniture factories were gutted at the North Katly CDA residential area under Akbar Shah Police Station in the city early Monday.

The fire originated from a furniture factory around 2:00 am and soon engulfed another two factories.

A total of five fire units of Agrabad and Chattogram Port controlled the fire around 3:15 am and finally doused it in the morning, Assistant Secretary Abdul Malek of Chattogram Fire Service and Civil Defense confirmed.

He said the fire might have originated from an electric short circuit and furniture worth around Tk 15 lakh had been damaged, adding that firefighters recovered furniture worth about Tk 20 lakh.
