A court in Sirajganj on Tuesday sentenced three persons to life term imprison for gang-raping a housewife in Tarash upazila of the district.

The convicted are Hasib Uddin Imtiaz alias Hiron, Atik and Nayon of Penguari village in the Tarash upazila.

Begum Salma Khatun, Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Sirajganj handed down the verdict in presence of the accused.

According to the prosecution brief, five people intercepted the victim and her husband on June 11, 2015 at around 10:00pm, while they were returning to home from Alef intersection of the upazila with a rented motorbike owned by Hasib Uddin Imtiaz alias Hiron. Later, the five persons took her to an isolated field after tying her husband with rope and raped her one after another. At that time, the accused snatched their mobile phones.

Victim’s husband lodged a case with Tarash police station in this connection. Police submitted charge sheet to the court accusing six persons including bike owner Hiron.

But, the court acquitted three other persons, as the allegation brought against them could not be proved.
