Three people, including a child, were killed in separate road accidents in Tangail. The accidents occurred on Friday afternoon in the Kalihati and Sakhipur upazilas.
At least 12 people were injured in the accidents.
The deceased are Abdus Salam, son of Mojibur Rahman from Gusaibari area of Ghatail upazila; S M Alam, son of the late Habibur Rahman from Chatiyachura area of Mirzapur upazila; and Safwan, a child, son of Masum Shikder from Gorgobindapur Jamtala area of Sakhipur upazila.
In Kalihati, two people were killed when a bus lost control and crashed into an electric pole. The accident took place around 3:30pm on Friday on the Mymensingh regional highway at Muliya area of the upazila.
Kalihati police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zakir Hossain said that a Prantik bus heading towards Mymensingh from Tangail lost control upon reaching Muliya and hit an electric pole on the roadside. Two people died on the spot. Around 12 people were injured.
The injured were sent to Tangail General Hospital for treatment. The bodies of the deceased will be handed over after completing legal procedures in consultation with their families.
On the other hand, around 1pm on Friday, a 5-year-old child was killed after being run over by a truck in front of Life Care Clinic in Sakhipur upazila.
Relatives of the deceased said that Masum-Mitu, a couple, brought their son Safwan to the Life Care Clinic on the side of the Dhaka-Sakhipur road for a medical check-up. After getting off the autorickshaw, Mitu crossed the road alone to the other side.
At that time, the child Safwan was sitting in the autorickshaw beside his father Masum.
Later, Masum got off the rickshaw and was paying the fare.
In that brief moment, Safwan suddenly got down from the rickshaw and ran to cross the road. A speeding truck hit him and drove away.
In this regard, Sakhipur police station OC Abul Kalam Bhuiyan said: “Upon the family’s request, the body was handed over without an autopsy. The truck has been seized.”
