Three railway employees have been suspended in connection with the collision of two trains at Ishwardi railway crossing in Pabna. Apart from this, the Pakshi Divisional Railway office has formed a 4-member investigation committee to investigate the cause of the accident.
The accident took place on Tuesday (March 26) around 12:15 am at Ishwardi Railway Junction area.
Western Railway Manager Shah Sufi Noor Mohammad confirmed the matter around 3 pm on Wednesday.
He said that a 4-member investigation committee consisting of a senior assistant signal engineer, assistant transport officer, assistant mechanical engineer, and assistant engineer has been formed to investigate the Ishwardi train accident in depth. The committee has been directed to submit the inquiry report within the next 3 working days. Initially, the train driver, assistant driver, and on-duty assistant station master were suspended.
Nasir Uddin, Commercial Officer of Western Pakshi Divisional Railway, said that an oil-carrying train stopped at Ishwardi Junction station on its way to Khulna after unloading oil at Parbatipur. At the time of the incident, a stone-laden freight train on its way from India to Dhaka stopped at the same station. At that time, the stone-laden train collided with the oil-carrying train while shunting (carriage from one line to another line). Then the engine of the oil train and a carriage of the freight train derailed.
