A local court has sentenced 3 people to death in the case filed for brutal murder of mother and daughter while committing robbery in Bahubal of Habiganj.

Additional District and Sessions Judge 2nd Court Judge Mohammad Yashir Arafat announced the verdict on Tuesday afternoon. The convicts were sent to Habiganj District Jail immediately after the verdict was announced.

The convicts are Amir Hossain son of Alamgir Hossain of Chowkidighi village of Shahparan police station of Sylhet district, Abdul Hannan son of Tenu Mia of Hajimadam village of Bahubal upazila and Monir Mia son of Mohib Ullah of Dubao area of ​​the same upazila.

It is known that Anjali Das (30), wife of raw materials trader Sanjit Das (30) and her daughter Pooja Rani Das (8) fell asleep on the third floor of a rented house near Digambar Bazar in Bahubal Upazila on the night of Wednesday, March 18, 2021. A group of robbers entered their house at midnight to rob. At that time, the robbers brutally killed the mother and daughter by slitting their throats and looted the goods including gold ornaments. Locals found their dead bodies in their homes in the morning. Later, when the police were informed, the police recovered the bodies and sent them to the morgue.

After this incident, Anjali Das’s husband Sanjit filed a murder case as plaintiff. After a long investigation into the case, the then Inspector Investigation Prajit Kumar Das of Bahubal police station filed a charge sheet in the court accusing the mentioned 3 persons on 31 August 2022. After taking the testimony of 20 witnesses in the case, the judge ordered to hang them.

Advocate Habibur Rahman Khan, the lawyer of the state, said that the family of Sanjit Das got justice in the court’s verdict.

He said, we want the verdict to be implemented soon. The lawyers of the defendants and their relatives said that they would appeal against the verdict.
