Electricity supply remains unavailable at 325 polling centres across the country ahead of the referendum and parliamentary election scheduled for February 12.

The Election Commission has instructed the power division to ensure electricity connections at the affected centres before polling day, according to a letter sent on Sunday to the division’s senior secretary.

In the letter, the commission said a referendum and the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election will be held on February 12 and stressed that an uninterrupted power supply is essential for the smooth conduct of voting.

The EC noted that although polling centres have already been finalised, 325 centres currently do not have electricity connections and require urgent arrangements.

A total of 42,761 polling centres have been finalised across Bangladesh for the upcoming referendum and parliamentary election, the commission said.

Election officials said electricity is needed at polling centres to operate lighting, electronic equipment and other logistical arrangements during voting and counting.
