TDS Desk:
The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has canceled 4.3 million family cards due to irregularities.
During the process of converting handwritten cards to smart family cards, these cards were excluded after verification with the National ID (NID) system.
However, due to various complications, it has not been possible to convert all cards into smart cards, so TCB is still distributing goods using the old handwritten cards.
TCB spokesperson Humayun Kabir shared this information at a press conference on Saturday at TCB’s regional office in Tejgaon.
Humayun Kabir explained that when 10 million handwritten cards were integrated with NID, it was found that some individuals used the same NID to acquire a card in Dhaka and another card in their hometown.
As a result, 4.3 million cards were excluded during the verification process.
He also mentioned that among the one crore family cards, multiple members from the same family are receiving goods.
Due to the absence of local administration or representatives, there is no proper monitoring to ensure that the goods reach the consumers accurately.
To address these issues, Kabir said: “We have initiated the conversion to smart family cards to ensure that each family only receives one card.”
So far, 5.7 million smart family cards have been issued.
TCB has sent four requests to the district administrations and city corporations to process the remaining cards.
However, recent administrative reshuffles in the district administrations have delayed the identification of these cards.
