Police have arrested four individuals on Wednesday in connection with two consecutive robbery-incidents on Dhaka-Chattogram highway at Chauddagram upazila in the district.
Superintendent of Police (SP) of Cumilla district, Mohammad Nazer Ahamed Khan confirmed the matter on Wednesday.
The arrestees are: Abdul Hannan, 35, son of Abdul Mannan hailing from Monpura area of Chandpur district, Md Sharif Hossain, 45, son of late Siraj Mollah of Charam Mahan area of Lakshmipur district, Nazrul Islam, 60, son of late Ramiz Uddin Hazi of Jorpukuria village of Chandina upazila of Cumilla and Mohammad Alauddin, 35, son of Tajul Islam of Dollainowabpur union of the same upazila.
Using modern technology, police conducted raids on Chandina police station areas of Cumilla district and various places in Kachua police station of neighboring Chandpur district from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning and ultimately managed to nab them.
Police seized a pickup truck used in the robbery, domestic weapons, looted goods, money and foreign currency in cash from their possessions.
Earlier, on February 27 and March 1, a Malaysian expatriate and a Kuwaiti expatriate were robbed at the same place in the Phagunkara area of the Dhaka-Chattogram highway.
Following the incident, the victims filed two separate cases.
