A total of 468 tons of potatoes imported from India arrived at Benapole land port railway station in Jessore on Thursday evening.
The consignment, transported by a freight train, is scheduled for unloading on Saturday.
Nazmul Arefin Jony, a representative of C&F agent Alam & Sons at the land port, said necessary documents will be submitted to Benapole Customs House on Saturday for customs clearance.
Once the customs and railway procedures are completed, the consignment will be unloaded either at Benapole port or Noapara, he added. Then, the potatoes will be distributed to various regions, including Dhaka and Chittagong, Jony said.
Station Master Saiduzzaman said the importer, Tata Traders from Chapainawabganj, Rajshahi, brought in the shipment, which was exported by Atif Exporters from Malda, India.
The freight train carried 9,460 bags of potatoes, he said, adding that the consignment’s import value is $1,007,640.
