Five police personnel have been suspended as they were allegedly found involved in extortion from trucks carrying sacrificial animals.

They are – Rupganj police station sub-inspector (unarmed) Sheikh Nazrul Islam, Narayanganj police lines sub-inspector (armed) Md Asaduzzaman, and constables Md Nazir Sheikh, Jugal Mandal, and Tanvir Hossain Akash.

The superintendent of police (SP) in Narayanganj suspended them on 13 June following a report aired on a private television channel over the extortion by police members from cattle-laden trucks, read a press release issued by the Police Headquarters on Saturday.

Besides, a probe committee led by Narayanganj additional SP (crime) was formed to look into the matter and based on the probe report, departmental actions would be taken against the police members as per rules, the release added.
