5 garment factories set ablaze, bid to attack Ashulia PS

Protestors have set ablaze five apparel factories at Ashulia in Savar,

Besides, they vandalized Savar and Ashulia press clubs and set fire to minimum six motor vehicles.

Receiving information, the fire fighters tried to went to the spots but barred by the protestors.

Five readymade garment factories including Sinha Textiles at Jirani in Ashulia, Ha-Mim Group and Bengal Group at Narsinghapur on Tongi-Ashulia-EPZ highway were set ablaze on Sunday (August 4) evening.

Witnesses said a clash broke out between protestors and leaders-workers of Awami League and its front organisations at Baipail area in the early Sunday afternoon, leaving a person bullet-ridden and injuring more than 30 people. Then the miscreants set fire to Ashulia Press Club at Baipail. They also set ablaze the motorcycle of a newsman. Then they tried to attack Ashulia Police Station. At one stage, police dispersed them firing rubber bullets. After a while, the miscreants set ablaze minimum five more motor vehciles parked at the Ashulia Police Station premises.

Ashulia Police Station’s officer-in-charge (OC) AFM Sayed said the miscrteants tried to attack the police station. “We have succeded to disperse them.”
