Under the Food-Friendly Program, 50 lakh families across the country will receive 30 kg of rice at a rate of Tk 15 per kg in March and April.
Additionally, as a gift from the current interim government on the occasion of Eid, one crore low-income families will be provided with 10 kg of rice free of cost, according to Food and Land Affairs Advisor Ali Imam Majumder.
He made these remarks on Thursday during a discussion meeting on the “OMS and Food-Friendly Program” held at the office of the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner, chaired by Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury.
The food advisor instructed all district commissioners of Dhaka Division to closely monitor the proper distribution of allocated rice for low-income people during Ramadan.
During the meeting, district commissioners informed the advisor about various local-level challenges in distributing rice under the Food-Friendly Program and OMS.
The advisor provided immediate solutions to some of the issues and assured that the remaining problems would be resolved promptly.
He stated that the country currently has an adequate food stock and there is no shortage of food. However, there is a lack of discipline in food grain distribution.
Therefore, district commissioners have been advised to conduct regular mobile court operations. The advisor emphasized the importance of ensuring that the subsidized and free food grains provided by the government reach the rightful beneficiaries in the correct amounts.
