At least 520 people, including 70 women and 56 children, were killed and 1356 others injured in road accidents last month (July), according to a report of the Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity.
The casualties occurred in some 506 road accidents across the country, according to the report published on Tuesday.
Of the total, 169 people died and 144 others were injured in 162 motorcycle accidents, which is 32.50 per cent of the total deaths and 32,01 per cent of total accidents.
As many as 90 pedestrians, 50 students, 19 drivers and assistants were killed in road accidents.
Meanwhile, during this time, 17 people were killed and 14 others injured in 14 boat accidents, and 31 people were killed and 41 injured in 34 railway accidents.
According to the report, 40.31 per cent of the accidents occurred on national highways, 29.24 per cent on regional roads, 24.11 per cent on rural roads, and 4.74 per cent in Dhaka city.
