Law enforcers have arrested 53 students who entered Bangladesh Secretariat demanding an unbiased evaluation of HSC exam results on Wednesday.

It was seen that the students were taken away in two police prison vans around 3:45 PM on Wednesday, following the protest inside the Secretariat.

Earlier, at 3:00 PM, more than 100 students entered the Secretariat, protesting in front of Building 6. They chanted slogans like “No place for discrimination in My Sonar Bengal,” “We want justice,” “No discrimination in Mughdha’s Bengal.”

Bangladesh Army and law enforcement personnel stationed at the Secretariat urged the protesting students to stop their chants and engage in peaceful discussions.

During the protest, one of the students voiced their demands for fair and equal HSC results and called for justice regarding previous assaults on students at various education boards. They vowed to continue their sit-in until their demands were met.

However, the situation escalated when police attempted to disperse the protesters, leading to physical altercations. Many students were beaten, causing the protest to scatter. Several students were arrested at the scene.

By 4:15 PM, a police officer confirmed that 53 students were detained. They were transported from the Secretariat in two prison vans.

However, Masud Alam, Deputy Commissioner of the Ramna Division of Police, claimed that a total of 54 students had been detained for questioning. After interrogation, further steps will be taken.

The protesting students expressed their frustrations, stating, “We demand results based on equality. Some have been given better scores than others despite our strong performances. We want the results to be canceled and re-evaluated for those who were unfairly treated.”

Earlier, on October 20, a group of students stormed the Dhaka Board of Secondary and Higher Education with similar demands, alleging that they were attacked during their demonstration.

Board officials, on the other hand, claimed that the students had vandalized the chairman’s office during the protest.
