TDS Desk:
Due to a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, intermittent rainfall is occurring in different parts of the country, causing rivers to swell. As a result, the Water Development Board (WDB) has warned of possible flooding in six districts, including Feni.
On Thursday (May 29), the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre of the WDB issued a press release with these updates.
According to the notice, water levels in the Gomti, Muhuri, and Feni rivers in the Chattogram Division may rise over the next two days. The water level of the Muhuri River is expected to exceed the danger mark, posing a risk of flooding in low-lying areas near the river in Feni district. However, water levels may recede slightly after a day.
Additionally, in the Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions, water levels in the Sari-Goyain, Jadukata, Manu, Dhalai, Khowai, and Someswari rivers may rise over the next three days and could cross the danger level. This increases the risk of flooding in low-lying areas of Sylhet, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, and Netrokona districts.
In the Rangpur Division, water levels in the Teesta, Dharla, and Dudhkumar rivers are also expected to rise over the next three days, with the Teesta likely to flow near the warning level.
For the next two days, higher-than-normal tides are expected in coastal rivers of the Barishal, Khulna, and Chattogram divisions.
