• Police suspect the family committed suicide

Six members of a family were burnt to death in a fire at a house under the Ashrayan Project in Dharmapasha upazila of Sunamganj.

The deceased have been identified as Emarul, 45, Poly Akhter, 35, Polash, 12, Farhad, 9, Fatema, 7, and Omar Faruk, 3.

Jayashree Union Parishad Chairman Sanjay Roy Chowdhury said locals broke open the door after the fire erupted on Monday night. The house was found locked from the inside.

Both police and the chairman suspect that the family may have committed suicide by locking the house and setting it on fire.

Enamul Haque, officer-in-charge of Dharmapasha police station, said the fire appeared to have been started after locking the door from the inside.

Police suspect suicide, but the exact cause will be determined following an investigation, he added.
