At least six shops burned down at Ananda Market of Harich Chowdhury Bazar in Subarnachar Upazila of Noakhali, early today. However, no casualty was reported in the incident.

The fire started at Ananada Market of Harich Chowdhury Bazar at about 7:15 am and soon engulfed other adjoining shops. The local traders in the market first started extinguishing the fire and informed the fire service. Meanwhile, six shops in the market were burnt by the flames.

Charjabbar Fire Service Station Sub-Officer Nurun Nabi said that a fire service unit reached the spot after receiving the information and tried to bring the fire under control for an hour. The fire is believed to have originated from an electrical short circuit. Six shops were burnt to ashes and two shops were partially burnt. However, the extent of the damage is not yet known.

He said, however, it is not known whether the fire first spread from any shop. Details will be given later.

Shop owners estimated the loss at Tk 16 lakh.
