A joint force arrested seven people on Tuesday night after violent clashes broke out between residents of Hosenpur and Malshapara neighbourhoods in Sirajganj municipality over a football match.

The confrontation began around 9pm when two rival groups attacked each other with locally made weapons, leaving the area tense and causing damage to property.

Law enforcement agencies later launched a special operation around 11pm to restore order and detained seven individuals involved in the incident.

Sirajganj Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Mokhlesur Rahman confirmed the arrests on Wednesday morning, saying the clashes severely disrupted law and order in the area.

He said several locally made weapons were recovered during the operation. “The detainees will be produced before the court after completion of legal procedures,” he added.
