Police arrested eight individuals, including seven female leaders of the Awami League, during a flash procession in Dhanmondi early Friday morning.
The driver of a microbus transporting the participants was also taken into custody.
According to police, around 6:15am, 20 to 25 women brought out a procession near the Star Kabab restaurant on Dhanmondi Road No. 2, carrying banners and placards. One of the banners read “Mujib Premik Banglar Narira” (Mujib-loving women of Bangladesh), as the group proceeded towards Dhanmondi Road No.3.
A patrol team arrived on the scene shortly after receiving information about the procession.
As participants attempted to disperse, seven women were detained. The microbus used to carry them was seized, and the driver was also arrested.
Assistant Commissioner of Dhanmondi Zone, Shah Mustafa Tarikuzzaman, confirmed that the situation was quickly brought under control and that the women had been taken into custody.
Police further stated that legal action has been initiated against the arrested individuals, and a case has been filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Dhanmondi Police Station.
