Eight more employees of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) have been temporarily suspended for allegedly engaging in “subversive activities, negligence to duties, and misconduct”, according to an order issued by the power plant authorities.
This is the second consecutive action against the employees of the power plant within a week.
Md Zahedul Hasan, Managing Director of Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Limited (NPCBL), issued the suspension order on Tuesday along with show-cause notices, confirmed, Md Ruhul Kuddus, site office-in-charge at Rooppur.
According to the suspension letter, the employees have been barred from entering the plant premises and have been asked to explain within 10 working days why further action should not be taken against them.
The suspended employees are Iktiar Uddin Mohammad Biplob (Assistant Manager), Shamim Ahmed (Assistant Manager), Md Monir (Senior Assistant Manager), Md Salah Uddin (Assistant Manager), Md Hosenuzzaman Khan (Senior Deputy Assistant Manager), Md Golam Azam (Assistant Manager), Md Riaz Uddin (Technician), Md Ismail Hossain (Technician)
The suspension follows a week long demonstrations staged by a faction of NPCBL employees from April 28 to May 8, regarding job-related issues and the removal of the managing director.
Efforts to contact Zahedul Hasan, who also serves as the project director of RNPP, were unsuccessful.
Last Thursday, NPCBL terminated 18 engineers in connection with the same unrest.
