Former law minister Anisul Huq, former social welfare minister Dr Dipu Moni, and former state minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak are among nine individuals shown as arrested in separate cases filed in various police stations in the capital in connection with the anti-discrimination student protests.

The accused were brought from jail to the court by the police at around 9:30am on Wednesday.

The other arrestees include former Supreme Court justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, former minister for civil aviation and tourism Lt Col (retd) Mohammad Faruk Khan, former MP Haji Selim and his son former MP Solaiman Selim, former DMP ADC Jewel Rana and Gazipur’s Sreepur Municipality Jubo League President Abdur Rouf.

Investigating officers of the respective cases sought permission to formally show them as arrested in cases filed in different police stations in the capital.

Public Prosecutor Omar Faruq Faruki submitted the applications on behalf of the prosecution, while the defense lawyers opposed them.

After the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate MA Azharul Islam granted the applications to show them as arrested.

In the murder case filed with Adabor Police Station, Dr Dipu Moni, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Haji Selim, and Lt Col (retd) Faruk Khan were shown as arrested.

In the attempted murder case filed with New Market Police Station, Zunaid Ahmed Palak and former DMP ADC Jewel Rana were shown as arrested.

In addition, former law minister Anisul Huq and former MP Solaiman Selim were shown as arrested in the attempted murder case filed with Kotwali Police Station.

Former justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik was shown as arrested in the murder case filed with Gulshan Police Station.

Abdur Rouf, president of Sreepur Municipality Jubo League, was shown as arrested in the murder case filed with Hatirjheel Police Station.
