A 9-year-old girl committed suicide in Shouli Shapla village in Raiganj upazila of Sirajganj district on Sunday noon due to refusal to give her mobile.
The victim was Ferdousi Khatun, daughter of Farhad Hossain in the village and also class-III student of Shouli Shapla Primary School in the upazila.
Quoting victim’s family members, police said that, Ferdousi committed suicide by hanging herself from a bamboo after wrapping with a veil in their bedroom, when her mother refused her to give mobile phone for watching reels.
Sensing the matter, locals rushed to the spot and rescued her after breaking open the door. Later, she was taken to local hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
The body was recovered and sent to hospital morgue for autopsy. An unnatural death case was lodged with the respective police station in this connection, Humayun Kabri, OC of Raiganj thana said.
