A mobile court on Tuesday seized 908 kg of banned polythene shopping bags from a warehouse in Ghurka Beltola baza’ar in Raiganj upazila of Sirajganj district.
During the drive, the mobile court also fined Tk 5,000 for storing illegal polythene bags despite the government ban.
The mobile court led by Akhiruzzaman, Executive Magistrate of the Sirajganj district administration was conducted at the Ghurka Beltola baza’ar area at noon. At that time, Shahin Alam, Inspector of the Department of Environment in Sirajganj district office provided the prosecution. But, no one involved with the illegal possessing and trading was arrested or jailed in the mobile court.
Tuhin Alam, Assistant Director of the Doe said that, such drive will be continued until closing the use of polythene.
