Question paper leak: Abed Ali wanted to be upazila chairman

Syed Abed Ali (60) has retired as a Public Service Commission (PSC) driver. However, he was known as a ‘good man’ to the people of Dasar area of ​​Madaripur, his home village. In that identity, he has also started a campaign to elect the chairman of Dasar Upazila Parishad.

Local people said Syed Abed Ali is a resident of Paschim Botla village of Dasar Upazila of Madaripur. He moved to Dhaka at the age of 8 in search of livelihood. He used to do various small jobs there. At one stage he learned to drive and got a job in PSC. Then he acquired huge wealth. He claimed to have acquired this wealth by doing real estate business. In the village, his two brothers earn their livelihood by farming and driving auto-rickshaws.

Residents have been seeing Syed Abed Ali frequenting their locality for two years. He wants to be the chairman candidate of Dasar Upazila Parishad. He has been campaigning for this for a long time. Syed Abed Ali and his son Syed Sohanur Rahman (SIAM) conducted an election campaign in local areas by riding expensive cars. Father and son donate to the poor and needy in the area. They regularly share their pictures and videos on Facebook.

Syed Sakhawat Hossain, president of the Awami League of Dasar Upazila, was shocked to see Abed Ali’s sudden rise. He said that Abed Ali has no party position. He is not involved in Awami League politics. He heard that Abed Ali will be elected chairman of Dasar Upazila. He saw Abed Ali’s banner festoon in the streets.

Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested 17 people including two deputy directors, and two assistant directors of the Public Service Commission (PSC) in connection with the leak of question papers of various recruitment tests, including assistant engineers of Bangladesh Railway. Former PSC driver Syed Abed Ali is among those arrested. He has allegedly acquired huge wealth by ‘leaking questions’.
