No constitutional violation in Interim Govt formation: AG

Attorney General (AG) Advocate Asaduzzaman Saturday said that the “Doctrine of Necessity” has been well applied in the formation of the Interim Government. There is no constitutional violation here.

He told reporters at the Supreme Court on Saturday (August 10).

The Attorney General said that the Chief Justice’s resignation letter has been sent to the law ministry. The President will decide who will be the next Chief Justice.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan resigned on Saturday afternoon. Before resigning, he spoke to the Adviser on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Professor Asif Nazrul.

According to sources, Justice Ashfaqul Islam has been appointed as the new acting Chief Justice.

Mentioned that the Students Against  Discrimination (SAD) Movement gave an ultimatum for the resignation of seven judges of the Appellate Division, including the Chief Justice. After that, the Chief Justice took such a decision. Besides, five judges of the Appellate Division have also decided to resign.
