Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the son of Awami League president and former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, has commented on the new interim government, stating that it is not a reform but rather a case of mob rule.

He said this in a post on his verified Facebook page on Sunday.

He wrote: “Sunday the protestors threatened to attack the Supreme Court and burn down the home of the Chief Justice of Bangladesh. They demanded the court resign and they provided a list of names of people to be appointed. The interim government gave in to their demand and appointed Justices named by the protestors. How can the Supreme Court of a country be changed without any due process, without elected Parliament? This is not reform, this is mob rule.

“There is no rule of law in Bangladesh when even the Supreme Court is not safe. The protestors also gave a list of 41 names of journalists to the Press Club demanding they be expelled. After all their allegations of my mother’s governments crackdown on freedom of speech, is this not a more severe attack on freedom of speech? So a mob gets to provide a list of journalists to throw out? I would like to hear from the international media and government on this. You have been so vocal in the past, why are you silent now?,” the post adds.

Earlier, Sajeeb Wzed Joy claimed that his mother did not resign from her position before fleeing to India.

He said as protesters started marching on Ganabhaban, the official residence of the prime minister, Hasina had to flee without any delay.

“She had planned to make a statement and submit her resignation. But then the protesters started marching on the prime minister’s residence. And there was no time. My mother wasn’t even packed. As far as the constitution goes, she is still the prime minister of Bangladesh,” Joy said this in an exclusive interview with international news agency Reuters.

Hasina has been sheltering in New Delhi since Monday following an uprising that killed over 250 people, many of them students, ending her uninterrupted rule of 16 years.
