Entertainment Desk:

The screening of the first full-length Mro language film “Dear Mother” was held at Central Shaheed Minar in the capital on Saturday.

Written by Saiyeed Shahjada Al Kareem, the movie has been directed by SK Shuvo Shadique. Shahara Banu and Baizid Kha have jointly produced the movie.

Chamling Mro, Rang Mong Mro, Joydeb Roaja, Jayita Mohalanabish, Safwan Mahmud, Elee Prue and others have played important roles in the film.

The open-air screening at the Shaheed Minar yesterday was attended by people from various walks of life.

About the screening of the film, SK Shuvo Shadique said, “We have long desired an open screening. After the first screening in 2023, it was nearly impossible for us to show the film anywhere for almost a year. The chains around us, restricting freedom of expression, were too tight to break. Despite approaching various organisations and institutions, we could not arrange any alternative screening, except for one at an institution.”

The makers of this film have stated that they did not submit the film to the censor board as a form of protest against censorship in any kind of arts. This 67-minute feature film was shot independently for over two years in Bandarban without any financial or institutional support.
