Former head of news of Ekattor Television Shakil Ahmed and its principal correspondent and presenter Farzana Rupa were detained at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Wednesday as they tried to leave the country.

“We completed the immigration process, but they were wanted in connection with cases,” a high-ranking official of the Special Branch (SB) said on condition of anonymity. “A requisition was issued by the Detective Branch (DB) regarding the case, and they were taken into custody at the airport.”

Airport officials said Shakil Ahmed and Farzana Rupa were trying to take a flight of Turkish Airlines to go to Farnace.

Earlier on 8 August, Ekattor Television dismissed Shakil Ahmed and Farzana Rupa.
