TDS Desk:

A court Wednesday (21 August) sent Abdur Rahman Bodi, former Awami League lawmaker from Cox’s Bazar-4 constituency, to jail in an attempted murder case.

Judge Hamimun Tanzin passed the order after Rapid Action Battalion members produced Bodi at the Cox’s Bazar Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Teknaf, said lawyer Mohammad Shaheen, who was present in the court at that time.

As the remand application did not reach the court on time, the judge announced that a hearing on remand would take place later, Shaheen said.

Bodi was arrested yesterday night from Chattogram’s GEC intersection area in a case filed over allegations of attempted murder of BNP leader Mohammad Abdullah.

Abdullah filed the case with Teknaf Police Station on 19 August, said the police station’s Officer-in-Charge Muhammad Osman Gani.

Bodi is a two-time Member of Parliament from Cox’s Bazar-4 (Ukhiya-Teknaf) constituency. He was denied nomination in the December 2018 national election in the face of fierce criticism for his involvement in various illicit activities including yaba smuggling.
