TDS Desk:

The High Court has refixed Sunday (August 25) for holding hearing on a writ seeking the ban on Awami League and cancellation of its registration as a political party for mass killing.

An HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Md Mahbubul Ul Islam set the new date on Thursday following a time petition of the state.

Writ petitioner Arifur Rahman Bhuiyan, executive director of rights group Sarda Society, was present in the court. Attorney general Md Asaduzzaman represented the state.

Arifur Rahman filed the writ on August 19 seeking ban on Bangladesh Awami League and cancellation of its registration as a political party for mass killing.

The writ pleaded to rename all the institutions across the country named after ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Additionally, the petitioner also pleaded for allowing the incumbent interim government minimum three years time to carry out the reform, transfer of all the contractual appointments made during the past Awami League government,  and repatriate Tk 11 lakh crore smuggled abroad.
