A case was filed on Thursday against 47 people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, over the killing of hawker Md Shahabul Islam alias Shaon in Baipail area in Savar during the recent anti-discrimination student movement.

Md Mojibul Hossain, relative of Shaon, filed the complaint over the killing with the court of Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Rabeya Sultana.

The court, after recording the statement of the complainant, asked the officer in-charge of Ashulia Police Station to accept the matter as First Information Report (FIR).

The other prominent accused in the case are – Obaidul Quader, Salman F Rahman, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Anisul Huq, Hasan Mahmud and Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun.

Around 200 to 300 unnamed people were also implicated in the case.

According to the case documents, Shaon participated in the anti-discrimination street protest on the morning of 4 July. He was shot around 11:00 am and later succumbed to his injuries at the Dhamrai Upazila Health Complex at approximately 1:30 pm.
