Hasina,Quader, Kamal sued in another N’ganj murder case

Another murder case has been filed against 112 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, in Narayanganj.

Kulsum Begum, mother of  the victim Ashique Mia, a 20-year-old worker who was shot dead during an anti-discrimination student movement, lodged the lawsuit at Sonargaon Police Station on Friday.

Ashiq Mia, the deceased, was a resident of Gokulnagar Paschimpara at Bancharampur upazila in Brahmanbaria district. He was employed at Makkah Industries in the Kanchpur BSCIC Industrial Area of Sonargaon, Narayanganj.

The case lists 112 individuals by name, with an additional 300 unnamed suspects.

The other accused in the case include former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Law Minister Anisul Haque, former Awami League MPs Shamim Osman, Golam Dastagir Gazi Bir Pratik, Nazrul Islam Babu, Abdullah Al Kaiser, former Jatiya Party MP Liaquat Hossain Khoka, Shamim Osman’s son Ayon Osman, and his nephew Azmeri Osman, among others.

According to case statement, Awami League leaders and activists, along with their allied organizations, launched an attack in Kanchpur overbridge area at around 5.30 PM on August 4,  to disperse protesting students. The attackers allegedly used firearms, pistols, shotguns, and detonated cocktails to create panic. Additionally, they reportedly attacked with machetes and set fires, acting on the orders of Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan, Anisul Haque, Shamim Osman, and others.

During the clash, Ashiq Mia and 15 to 20 others were shot and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where Ashiq succumbed to his injuries the following morning on August 5.

This brings the total number of cases filed in various police stations in the district to 15, including 14 murder cases.

Sheikh Hasina has been named as an accused in 14 of these cases.
