The interim government has appointed Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury, a judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, as the Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission (BJSC) chairman.

The law ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard on Tuesday. This order will come into effect immediately.

On 15 October 2023, the Sheikh Hasina-led government appointed Justice M Enayetur Rahim as the BJSC chief.

The post fell vacant as Enayetur Rahim resigned from the Appellate Division in the face of student protest following the downfall of Hasina.
