Top terrorist Sheikh Mohammad Aslam alias Sweden Aslam has been released from Kashimpur High Security Central Jail in Gazipur on bail.
He was released around 9pm yesterday (3 September) and left for Dhaka with his family, confirmed Senior Jail Superintendent Abdullah Al Mamun Wednesday (4 September).
He also said that there are 12 cases against top terrorist Sweden Aslam.
The latest case was filed against Sheikh Aslam in connection with the murder of Jubo League leader Ghalib of Tejgaon. Ghalib was murdered on 23 March 1997. A case was filed against 20 people including Aslam. The police filed a charge sheet on 8 April 1998. The case is currently under trial.
Out of the 24 witnesses in this case, the police have so far managed to produce only 14 of them in court. Sheikh Aslam was released from jail after getting bail in that case.
According to prison authority sources, the bail papers of Aslam alias Sheikh Mohammad Aslam alias Sweden Aslam, 62, reached Kashimpur Jail last Wednesday. Later, the jail authorities checked the bail papers and released him yesterday.
Aslam is one of the 23 top criminals declared during the tenure of the BNP-led four-party coalition government in the early 2000s.
He was also accused of shooting a young boy named Shakil, who was holding his mother’s hand, in front of a school in the Farmgate area in 1986. Since then he has been accused in several murder cases.
He stayed in Sweden for some time and upon returning adopted the name “Sweden Aslam”.
He was arrested on 31 January 2005, and was sent to various prisons before landing at Kashimpur jail in 2014.
