A Correspondent, Faridpur:

A case has been filed after Obaidur Rahman, principal of Jadundi Nabokam Palli University College in Saltha upazila, Faridpur, was brutally assaulted and forced to sign a resignation letter after being beaten with hammers.

The case was filed by the victim on Thursday night at Saltha police station.

The main accused in the case is Kayum Molla, a resident of the Jadundi area near the college.

Additionally, eight others, including locals Kamrul Gazi, Lalon, Monir, and Mia, have been named as accused.

However, no students from the college have been listed as accused in the case.

On Friday, Obaidur Rahman said: “A group of criminals led by Kayum Molla and Kamrul Gazi forcibly took my resignation by beating me with hammers. I did not resign voluntarily, which is why I have filed a case to seek justice.”

When asked about the involvement of students, Rahman said: “The students are not at fault here. They were used by the local leaders, and I do not wish to harass the students.”

In response to the accusations, the main accused, Kayum Molla, said: “I lead one group in the area, while the president of the Jadundi union Awami League, Abdur Rob Molla, leads another. Our group’s students have been neglected at the college.

“During the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, Obaidur Rahman harassed our students using the police. That’s why the students protested and demanded his resignation. He resigned under student pressure, and I had no involvement in this.”

Saltha police station Officer-in-Charge Md Faizur Rahman said police will investigate and take legal action against those responsible.

Faridpur Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (Nagarkanda Circle) Asaduzzaman Shakil said: “I visited the college after the incident and gathered information. We will conduct raids to arrest those involved in the assault.”

According to sources, on Thursday morning, Obaidur Rahman and his son were forcefully pulled out of their car by a group of miscreants and students as they were entering the college.

They were taken to a garden where they were beaten with hammers, leaving them injured. The attackers then forcibly took the principal’s resignation.
