Masud Sayeedi, son of late Jamaat-e-Islami leader and renowned Islamic orator Delawar Hossain Sayeedi, said that his father’s killers, along with those responsible for oppression and killings over the past 17 years, will not be forgiven.
Speaking at a workers’ rally of Jamaat-e-Islami in the Shankharikathi union of Nazirpur upazila in Pirojpur on Friday, he demanded justice for the perpetrators, particularly those who celebrated his father’s death sentence.
However, he also said that those who aligned with the Awami League under pressure to protect personal assets, businesses or jobs would be granted general amnesty.
Masud Sayeedi said, “The Awami League was born out of murder. Sheikh Mujib, in 1964, killed Shahid Ali, the speaker of the Provincial Assembly, by striking him with a chair in the assembly. The Awami League’s history is one of killings. In Pilkhana, Dhaka, they murdered 57 proud officers of the Bangladesh Army, a tragedy unmatched even in war.”
He further said that in 2013, the so-called “kangaroo tribunal” sentenced his father in a false case, sparking nationwide protests. “In response to that uprising, 300 people were killed under the orders of ‘murderous’ Hasina.” He said, “On 5 May 2013, Hefazat-e-Islam rally at Shapla Chattar, where thousands of Islamic scholars gathered demanding justice against atheists, brutally massacred under Hasina’s regime following Indian directives.”
The event was presided over by Jamaat-e-Islami Shankharikathi union President Md Anisur Rahman Mallik, with Maulana Abu Daud acting as the moderator.
