After Swarna Das, another Bangladeshi teenager was shot dead by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at the Kantibhita border area of Dhantala Union in Baliadangi of Thakurgaon.

Two others, including the victim’s father, were injured during the incident.

The victim, 14-year-old Jayanta Kumar Singh, was fatally shot by the BSF while allegedly attempting to cross into India near Main Pillar 393 of the Dhantala BGB border on Sunday. Jayanta was a resident of Fakir Bhita village in Baliadangi.

According to reports, a group of 10-12 individuals, including Jayanta, his father Mahadev, and another person named Dorbaru from Bottoli Thumunia village in Dhanatala Union, attempted to illegally cross the border into India with the help of a broker. While trying to enter India through the 393 Main Pillar area of the Baliadangi-Dhanatala border, the BSF opened fire at them. Jambu was killed on the spot, and both Dorbaru and Mahadev were injured.

Local residents rescued the injured and took them to Rangpur for treatment.

The incident was confirmed by Dhanatala Union Parishad Chairman Samar Kumar Chatterjee.

Baliadangi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Firoz Kabir confirmed the incident. He said that it is still unclear why the individuals were at the border. However, the body of the deceased is currently in the custody of the BSF.

Lt. Col. Md. Tanzir Ahmad, the commanding officer of the 50th BGB Battalion in Thakurgaon, said that they have heard about the incident and were conducting an investigation. More details will be provided later.

In a similar incident earlier on 1 September, a 14-year-old girl named Swarna Das was shot and killed by the BSF while she was attempting to cross the Lalarcok border in Kulaura upazila with her mother, Sanjita Rani Das, to visit relatives in India.

Swarna Das was a student in the eighth grade at Nirod Bihari High School in Juri. The BSF took her body after the incident, and it was handed over to her family by the Indian authorities on 3 September.
