No innocent will be punished: Chief prosecutor

Tajul Islam, chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal, said that no one who is innocent will be punished, and no one who is guilty will be spared.

He said this in response to questions from journalists at the premises of the International Criminal Tribunal on Monday.

Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam said that the investigation agency of the International Criminal Tribunal has decided to send a letter to all public and private hospitals, cemeteries and all the deputy commissioners of the country asking for the information of the injured and killed in the student movement last July. At the same time, a letter has been sent to the media to collect data for July and August.

He said that the condition of the injured in the movement was inquired and statements were taken at Dhaka Medical yesterday. The families of all the injured have asked for speedy justice. The investigating agency spoke to the director of the hospital. All information will be collected later.

Tajul Islam said that these decisions were taken at the beginning of the investigation. He said that the information will be collected by sitting with the student leaders. It is difficult to determine when the investigation may be completed. However, it will not take more than one day as long as the evidence is fresh.

He also said that a letter is being sent to the media for the video-pictures that are available to them for investigation. The Chief Prosecutor said, this initiative is to investigate with transparency. So that there is no question about the trial process. The victims are waiting for justice for this genocide. Witnesses are also interested. Attempts to initiate the trial continue while the evidence is still fresh.

In response to a question, he said that this government has no political motive in the trial. No political ambitions. The aim is to prosecute the brutality that happened to the students.
