Ex-Noakhali MP Ekramul sent to jail after arrest in murder case

A Correspondent, Noakhali:

A court in Noakhali on Wednesday sent former Awami League lawmaker Ekramul Karim Chowdhury to jail in a murder case.

Police produced him before the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Sajjad Hossain at about 7:15AM. Later, the court ordered to send him in Noakhali jail in the case filed with Sudharam Police Station on September 8.

Earlier on Tuesday night, Ekramul Karim was arrested by the members of Rapid Action Battalion from Chittagong’s Khulshi area. He was shown arrested in the murder case this morning.

The case was filed for firing and killing Sramik Dal activist Md Khokon in 2013. A total 53 accused, including Ekramul Karim, have been made accused.

The former lawmaker is accused in four cases. Of those, two of the cases were filed with Sudharam Model Police Station over murder and abduction, another was filed with Sonaimuri Police Station on charge of killing and the other was lodged with Kabir Hat Police Station for illegal possession of firearms.

Besides, one of the murder cases was recently filed for firing at protesters during the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement on August 4.
