TDS Desk:

The inquiry commission formed to probe incidents of enforced disappearance during the Awami League regime has found proof of the existence of Aynaghar (secret detention centre).

It also received 400 complaints about enforced disappearance in 13 working days, retired justice Moinul Islam Chowdhury, also the chairman of the Commission of Inquiry, said at a press conference in Dhaka on Thursday.

He said, according to the complaints made by the victims, the commission visited the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) headquarters and discovered the secret detention facility.

The Joint Interrogation Cell (JIC) known as Ayanaghar is located within the headquarters of the DGFI, the chairman said, adding that there are 22 cells in the two-storey building.

“We have dealt with complaints of those who have been the victims of enforced disappearance under state patronisation or by law enforcement agencies. We will also summon those against whom complaints have been filed,” he said.

Complaints can be submitted till 10 October, Moinul added.
