The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested the media coordinator of banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir.
The arrestee has been identified as Imtiaz Selim.
Md Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner (public relations and media) of DMP, confirmed the arrest on Friday.
He said the CTTC arrested him in a raid in the Bashundhara Residential Area in Dhaka on Friday morning. There is a case against him with Shahbagh Police Station under thenti Terrorism Act, 2009. He is also accused in two cases filed with Pallabi and Khilgaon police stations.
Three other cases are pending against him. Imtiaz Selim is in the process of being handed over to the court, he added.
Hizb ut-Tahrir, an organization banned in 2009, took out a procession in the capital on August 5, the day of the fall of the Awami League government following the mass uprising.
They claim that the activists of the organization were in the field with the students and people in the movement to topple the Sheikh Hasina government. Recently, at a press conference at the National Press Club in Dhaka, the organization also demanded the withdrawal of the ban.
