Hollywood icon Keanu Reeves made his professional auto racing debut on Saturday, October 5, at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway, participating in the Toyota GR Cup. The Matrix star, who is 60 years old, impressively avoided a collision but spun off the track more than halfway through the 45-minute race. Despite the setback, Reeves was unharmed and quickly rejoined the race.

The incident occurred on the exit of Turn 9, where Reeves spun into the grass but managed to steer clear of any collisions. He calmly re-entered the track and continued driving, signalling that he had not sustained any injuries. Earlier in the race, Reeves had successfully avoided a first-lap crash at Turn 14.

Qualifying 31st out of 35 participants, Reeves climbed as high as 21st during the race and ultimately finished in 25th place. The Toyota GR Cup is a spec-racing series that supports this weekend’s Indy 8 Hour sports car event. Reeves is set to compete in a second race on Sunday.

While this marks Reeves’ professional racing debut, the actor has prior experience on the track, having previously participated in the celebrity race at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, which he won in 2009.

On the professional front, Reeves is scheduled to attend a 30th anniversary screening of his 1994 blockbuster Speed in Los Angeles on Tuesday, alongside his co-star Sandra Bullock. Fans can also look forward to his return as John Wick in a cameo appearance in Ballerina, a spin-off film starring Ana de Armas, set for release next year. Additionally, Reeves has lent his voice to Shadow the Hedgehog in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
