An elderly man commits suicide reportedly after killing his wife at Manda upazila in Naogaon district in the early hours of Sunday.

Police recovered the bodies of –Ataur Rahman, 72, and his wife Maruni Bibi from Bharshno Paschimpara village, from their house and sent to a morgue for autopsy.

According to locals, the couple lived in the house alone after their only daughter got married. In the early hours of Sunday, the victim’s daughter called a neighbour and said her father may have committed suicide. Being informed, the neighbour along with others went to the house and discovered the bodies of the couple.

Confirming the deaths, Manda Police Station officer-in-charge Mansur Rahman said Maruni Bibi was found dead with several injury marks on her head. Meanwhile, a sharp iron rod and a suicide note was found beside the bodies.

The actual reason behind the death would be known after autopsy and legal actions will be taken upon receiving autopsy report, added the OC
