Matia Chowdhury, a senior politician and a presidium member of the Awami League, passed away. She was 82.

She breathed her last at 11:00am on Wednesday, while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, according to her maternal uncle, Mostafa Jamal Haider.

Haider, also the president of the Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar), confirmed the news.

Matia Chowdhury, widely known for her contributions to politics and public service, was a prominent figure in Bangladesh’s political landscape.

Further details regarding her funeral arrangements are expected to be announced soon.
