3 killed in separate road accidents in Sirajganj

At least three persons were killed and 10 others injured in two separate road accidents in Sirajganj on Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Ashraful Islam, 23, son of Muktar Hossain and Md. Roni Mian, 22, son of Mohammad Ali, both hailed from Ghoraghat in Rangpur and Nazrul Islam, 33, son of Abdus Sattar of Durgapur village in Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj district.

The injured were admitted to Ullapara Hospital. Of them, condition of few persons is stated to be critical, hospital sources said.

The first accident took place at 7:30am on the Dhaka-North Bengal highway at Simantabazar area, also western side of Bangabandhu Jamuna Bridge in Kamarkhanda upazila of the district, while a pick-up van hits a standing truck from behind leaving Ashraful Islam and Md. Roni Mian dead on the spot.

On the other hand, another accident took place at around 9:30am on the Dhaka-Pabna highway at Balshabari area in Ullapara upazila of the district, as a Dhaka bound bus of Shyamoli Paribahan coming from Pabna rammed into a shop on the roadside after losing control over the steering, while it attempting to evade collision with a three wheelers (rickshaw-van) appeared suddenly in front of the bus.

The bus ran over a biker, who was sat on the bike in front of the shop, leaving him dead on the spot and 10 others including bus passengers were injured, said Rakibul Hasan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ullapara police station.

Police recovered the bodies and sent those to hospital morgue for autopsy. Two separate cases were lodged with the respective police stations in the connections.
