Entertainment Desk:

Ghajini 2 might just be made in both Hindi and Tamil languages at the same time. Aamir Khan and Suriya are reportedly in talks with producer Allu Aravind to finalise the script.

In Short

Aamir Khan and Suriya to work on Ghajini 2

Both actors want simultaneous Hindi and Tamil releases

Suriya confirmed interest in the sequel during Kanguva promotion

Actors Aamir Khan and Suriya are likely to revive their hit film Ghajini into a franchise. The latest media reports suggest that both the actors have liked the idea of Ghajini 2 and have agreed to work on the second film in the franchise simultaneously. The idea is to make sure that both the Hindi and Tamil versions of the film find their suitable audience at the same time.

Neither of the actors is interested in going for a remake, and therefore, the talks are on about shooting Ghaijini 2 together and releasing both versions on the same day.  A report in Pinkvilla quoted Suriya confirming the news of his interest in Ghajini 2. While promoting his latest film, Kanguva, he mentioned that producer Allu Aravind had recently cracked the idea of the second film in the franchise, and he quite liked it. He said, “Ghajini 2 was, actually, surprising that you asked me now. After a long time, Allu Aravind came up with that idea (for a sequel) and asked if that would be possible. I said definitely sir, we can think of it. Yes, the talk has started, the things are in process. Ghajini 2 might happen.”

The report further quoted a source close to the production mentioning that even Aamir has been working with Allu Aravind for some time to develop Ghajini 2. The actor is keen on working on the film as a fresh script, and not as a remake of the Tamil version.

“Shoot of the two Ghajini films to happen at the same time”

The source added, “With things going Pan India, remakes of cult films with popular stars are a thing of the past now. Both Suriya and Aamir Khan are excited by the idea of Ghajini 2, but don’t want the remake tag on their film. They are also concerned that the film arriving first will take away the novelty factor and conveyed their concerns to the producers. On hearing about both the actors, Allu Aravind and Madhu Mantena came up with a solution of shooting the two Ghajini films at the same time frame and bringing them to the big screen on the same day.”

The Tamil version of Ghajini, starring Suriya and Asin, was released in 2005. Aamir’s Ghajini, which was also a box office success, hit the screens in 2008. The talks about Ghajini 2 after 16 years seem exciting. It is also a big responsibility and the makers don’t want to go wrong with it. Everyone associated with the film wants to look at it like an organic sequel/ second part, and not just an attempt to cash in on the franchise name.

If everything goes by the plan, Ghajini 2 will have its structure in place by mid-2025. Both Aamir and Suriya have given their initial thumbs up and now, everything depends on the final script.
