Police headquarters publishes detailed list of 44 fatalities
TDS Desk:
The Bangladesh Police Headquarters on Friday published a detailed list of the 44 personnel killed during the July-August anti-fascist uprising, amid a spate of contesting claims putting the toll significantly higher.
Officials have also urged anyone claiming that more policemen were killed during the uprising to provide evidence, the headquarters added in a statement. The published list includes the names of killed police personnel, their ranks, name of their unit in the police department, date of dying, and place of death.
On Friday, the government and police urged the public and certain media outlets to refrain from spreading misinformation about the number of policemen killed during the July-August student-led movement.
“We have observed that some news outlets and individuals are intentionally spreading false information about the number of police fatalities during this period,” said the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing on Friday.
The police department maintains a detailed record of officers or constables who were injured or killed in protests or acts of violence.
